Speaking at Accessibility Camp NYC
Next Saturday (September 26 from 9am to 5pm EST) I’ll be visiting Brooklyn to kick off the day for New York City’s inaugural accessibility camp.
I’ll have a half hour, starting at 10am EST, to convince you why accessibility is and should be self-serving, and why we’ll all be better off for it. The full schedule:
- 9:00–9:30: Coffee & registration
- 9:30–9:50: Announcements & Keynote
- 10:00–10:30: Adrian Roselli: Selfish Accessibility
- 10:40–11:10: David Friedman: The Adventures of The Disabled Foodie: A Blog Reviewing Restaurant Accessibility
- 11:20–11:50: Mirabai Knight: The Three Prongs of Steno Accessibility
- 12:30–1:30: Lunch Break
- 1:40–2:10: Katherine Moriwaki & Don Undeen: Museum Accessibility: A Parsons and Met MediaLab collaboration
- 2:20–2:50: Chandra Carney: Develop with Accessibility in Mind
- 3:00–3:30: Svetlana Kouznetsova: Accessibility Through the Eyes of a Deaf Person
- 3:40–4:10: Sarah Horton and David Sloan: Empathy, Education, and Excellence in Inclusive Design
- 4:20–4:50: Walei Sabry: #A11Y within City Agencies
- 4:50–5:00: Closing Remarks
If you want to come, tickets are cheap and still available (though I hope my announcement drains that number rapidly). The event will be held at:
NYU ABILITY Lab at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering
2 MetroTech Roadway
8th Floor
Brooklyn, NY 11201
I’ve embedded a map for your, or my, use.
